What a great start to the U9 Gladiators season, away at Caythorpe on what can only be described as a beautiful English summers day. The Gladiators won the toss and decided to put Caythorpe into bat, confident they could chase down a total on what looked an excellent batting surface. A decision that looked to be the right one with a wicket falling in the first over taken by the Captain today Archie Cook. A further four wickets were taken in the innings by Connor Dillon, William Houldershaw and William Batcheler who took two for six, including a maiden over. The Gladiator’s fielding unit also played their part, taking on board what they have been focusing on in training, centred around the man of the match Jack Wiles for his terrific wicket keeping performance. Adding up to Caythorpe finishing on 251 for 5.
Picking up from where they left off in the first innings the Gladiator openers Archie Cook and William Houldershaw put on 32 runs between them, setting the platform and tone for the rest of the innings. The Gladiators continued to run build, seeing each batting pair knock the ball around the field with a couple of lovely front foot drives from Hector Wicks and some powerful batting from William Batcheler and Harry Garner. The first wicket to fall didn’t come until the eleventh over from an extremely good catch in the field. The last pair James Ives and Jack Wiles finished off what was now a comprehensive win for Lindum finishing on 306 for 2.
Well done boys.
