Young Academy side come up against a determind Gully Cricketers CC

As always this fixture was highly anticipated as a very young academy side travelled a few yards along Wragby Road to play Gully Cricketers. It is always a pleasure to be part of a fixtjure played with enthusiasm, graciousness and in the right spirit.Gully won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a positive start which continued throughout the innings. Gully's opening batsman played a limpet like innings for 35 as a couple of batsmen were dismissed with a wicket again for young Tom Marshall and one for Ian Fisher, who was thinking about appealing which was enough for this umpire to raise that oh so speedy finger. Gully's captain was at the crease and played an increasingly confident innings of 41 and was soon joined by Pravin who played a destructive innings of 42 from 26 balls, particulalrly taking it to the spinners before being run out in determined fashion by Bobby at the other end. The next 3 batsman added valuable runs for Gully who finished on 219-7. Our bowlers worked hard today but special mention to Mr Alan who bowled well with 9-39-2. This was a bit of a learning curve as to how to bowl to aggressive batsmen who are willing to play unorthodox shots as well as sound, technical ones. I feel that the young Lindum academy found it hard work in the field with balls coming to them at speed but a huge shout out to young Poppy Kavanagh who made her academy debut as wicket keeper and showed a huge amount of committment and courage behind the stumps.
Tea was superb and Gully as always were generous hosts ensuring every spectator was well fed and watered.
Lindum had a big task ahead in terms of chasing the runs and opened with Kempo and Pranav, neither of them looking particularly uncomfortable and remaining disciplined against tight Gully bowling before Pranav was adjudged lbw (??) and departed for 2 which brought Vaughan to the crease. Vaughan reached 4 before the digit demon raised that finger sending him on his way lbw.Zac came to the crease and looked to be settled in with Kempo with good running between the wickets and some nice shots between them before Zac lofted to mid off shortly followed by Kempo steering one into the welcoming hands of cover point. At this point Mick Garner was chewing on his fist with frustration. Jack showed some real fight with an innings of 65 from 65 balls but no-one was really able to hang around long enough for this to make a winning difference. Towards the end of the innings dark clouds started to appear and we thought an escape was on the cards as young Ollie hung around playing sound defensive cricket untill his dismissal. Ian Fisher came to teh crease with a couple with a couple of swashbuckling strokes before Jack was sadly bowled as he sought to keep runs flowing. Lindum were all out for 138.
We look forward to hosting Gully at the LCG where we will return their wonderful hospitality and hopefully reverse the result.
Lots of learning for the young team who continue to impress in so many ways. We go again at home to Bassingham this Sunday
