A makeshift Academy side completed the first weekend clean sweep of the season with a win away at Waddington. Seasoned skipper Elliott won the toss and elected to bowl first on a low, slow, green wicket, and Waddington did well to post a competitive total of 133-5. Sam Nuttall and Mr Alan opened up and bowled tightly, before Charlie Portlock eventually made the breakthrough with an LBW. Saad and Raghav bowled well in the middle overs and fielded well on the difficult outfield before Doctor Nabil took the second wicket, with the smart catch being taken by Dan Nuttall at cover. Elliott completed a fine week of bowling, claiming figures of 3-2 from two overs with good catches being taken by Dan at deep cover and Mr Alan at mid wicket. Old-timers Wes and John also contributed with their wisdom and lightning sharp fielding.
Classy pair Nabil and Charlie opened the batting, and they both scored 10 each before getting out. Dan made an impressive 29 on his Academy debut, while Mr Alan and Saad went for 11 and one respectively. This left the score on 67-5 when Sam and Ollie met at the crease. The two doubled the total in their stand of 67 to guide the Academy to victory, with Sam finishing on 17 and Ollie on 35, with his FIFTH ever hard-ball six being scored in the process. An edgy slice over cover on a 25 yard boundary still counts.
Clean sweep complete, and hopefully the first of many in the second half of the season.
