Waddington Thumped by Youngsters

The Lindum Academy side welcomed Waddington to the LCG this afternoon and fielded a young side that initially felt (to me) one senior short of a winning side. How wrong I was!
The innings was opened by Rishabh and Shane Barr and although Rishabh was bowled early on, a solid platform was established by Shane, Charlie and Anton scoring 17, 11 and 18 respectively. The innings moved up a gear with Matt Pickering scoring 53 (although did have a couple of lucky escapes) and Owen, Sam Nuttal and Alan Franklin kept up the momentum with regular runs taking the total to a respectable 180 for 8 off the 40 overs. We were also grateful for extras contributing a useful 30.
Waddington, in reply, got off to a slowish start with their openers keeping them well below the run rate. With the dismissal of one of their openers there arrived at the crease a batsman determined to speed things up with his opening six balls being 4 4 . . 4 6 setting the tone for a period of heavy scoring which caused a few nervous flutters before Sam Nuttal stepped in with some inspired bowling including a triple wicket fourth over leaving him with figures of 5-0-22-3. With the big hitting Morton gone for 44 the visitors never looked like getting anywhere near the total required and the rest of the squad were mopped up by Rishabh and Charlie. The bowling performance was strong, with only four extras being racked up and excellent fielding keeping the pressure on the opposition. A really mature performance all round which reflects really well on the club as a whole and bodes well for future years.
