After a disappointing Saturday it was up to the Lindum Sunday sides to fly the flag for the club. The weather was ideal and the ground looked a picture as we welcomed Carholme to the LCG. The Academy side had four under 13s and two under 15s and included four players making their Academy debut; Druhv and Raghav (under 13s) and two newbies (Alan and Nabil).
Carholme won the toss and elected to bat, reaching a total of 118 before being bowled out in the 32nd over. There was some tight bowling from the youngsters as well as from the more experienced heads. Kafait took three wickets and some superb bowling from Pranav saw him return figures of 4-0-10-3. A valuable contribution was also made by debutant 12 year old Raghav who picked up two wickets. A good bowling performance from a young team which will give them valuable experience. Must also mention in dispatches a superb catch from Sam Nuttal who, after over-running the ball, stuck out his hand and promptly held on.
Lindum's reply got off to a solid and steady start with Pranav showing some excellent technique against senior bowlers. Nabil held up an end, seeing off Carholme's more experienced bowlers before finishing his innings with a flurry of fours and being caught out for 26. When the sixth wicket fell the Academy still had plenty of work to do as, despite the many positives of the batting performance, the run rate had been on the steady side. But any fears were soon allayed with Matt Pickering and Kafait at the crease with knocks of 35 and 18 respectively seeing the side over the line in the 35th over for a well deserved win.
