Sunday 1st XI Match Report

The Sunday 1st XI began the defence of their Premier League title with a nine-wicket victory over BBH at the LCG. New skipper Ben Rolfs, who replaces the departing Elliott Dalton, lost his first toss, but what a loss it turned out to be as the visitors decided to bat first on a green, seaming deck. Angus Picko and Jordan Peters opened up and consistently both found and went past the outside edge on numerous occasions in the early stages, before Gus made the breakthrough as Tom Lindsay's buckets held the sharp catch at gully to remove the opener. Jordan then made it two as a spectacular low diving catch from skipper Rolfs at slip removed ex Lindum-man James Kimber for a lengthy duck. Gus and Jordan struck once more each before Lindo came into the attack, claiming three wickets for himself as he destroyed BBH's middle order. Aussie spin twins Rolfsy and Jack, who'd taken a break from the glove-work to show what he could do with the ball, finished the job off as they claimed the final three wickets between them (Ben one, Jack two). BBH ended on 69 all out.

The chase didn't look to be an easy one on a green seaming deck against a decent bowling line-up, however openers Jack and Ben Wells, who UNBELIEVABLY is the brother of reprobate Harry, made it look simple as they began to knock off the runs. Ben did fall for 16 after a rising delivery glanced behind off his glove, but not before a glorious cover drive which Ian Bell would've had posters on his wall of. Debutante youngster Joe Thompson was in at number three and batted excellently to keep out James in particular, and even had the presence of mind to leave a no-ball which clean bowled him and proceeded to go for four byes. Joe finished on two not out alongside Jack on 41 as the two saw us over the line for the loss of just one wicket with 19 overs to spare. 20 points in the bag!
