Sunday 1st XI Match Report

Lindum made light work of Bracebridge Heath in a shortened format game at the LCG on Sunday. In a match which started early and was shortened to T20 to accommodate for the World Cup Final, in which England beat France 4-2 to bring it home (we still believe), Lindum batted first and, with a very strong batting line up, looked to bat the opposition out of the game. They did just that, posting a very competitive 171-4 from the 20 overs. Pierce and pure MIF Ozzy opened up - the former hit a couple of nice boundaries before being bowled for 14 and skipper Elliott, self-promoted to number three, was stumped shortly after for three. A third-wicket partnership of 61 between Ozzy and Pricey guided Lindum to 92 before the former was caught for 32, taking his weekend run tally to over 200. Decent effort. Pricey and new man in Wrighty then took part in what seemed to be a reverse-sweep competition, with it being unclear whether the objective was to score runs or play out maidens. Anyway, Pricey lost the contest while on 36, switch hitting one, albeit rather firmly, straight to backward point (or square leg for the switch hit, you get the drift). Number six Cooky joined Wrighty and the two batted deliciously, each making unbeaten 30s to guide Lindum to 171-4 from their 20 overs.

A swift, tea-less turnaround took place to ensure we had plenty of time to see Harry Kane lift the Jules Rimet trophy aloft, and the first BBH wicket fell just as swiftly as Stubbsy chipped one straight down Ozzy's throat at mid-on off Elliott for four. The number three should've been out first ball but El decided he'd let him bat a little longer, to Ted's dismay, but Teddy got his revenge soon after as he clean bowled his man for nine. Not before, however, he'd clipped a six into the car park and through Dewy's back window. His car's back window, of course, Dewy doesn't have a window. Young Zac Shelbourne was soon brought into the attack and claimed an instant wicket, Harry Wells making a better job of the catch than his previous 'attempt' at mid-off. He was in the flow now though, catching the top scoring opener off Ted to leave BBH on 58-4 and all but out of the contest. Zac's inferior left-arm spin partner, Rob Cook, then came into the attack and claimed three simple wickets - a stumping for makeshift, but very good, wicketkeeper Rolfsy, an LBW and a caught and bowled to leave the visitors 92-7 from their 20, handing Lindum the comfortable 79 run victory. Just in time to see England bring it home!.....................
