The Better Pickering

Thankfully the toss was won and the inevitable decision to bat first was made.

Beggers and Picko opened and unfortunately an early wicket was lost when Beggers fell for five. Ozzy joined Picko at the crease and looked in great touch until he was cruelly run out as the bowler deflected a Picko straight drive onto the stumps with his foot. 13 proving unlucky for Ozzy! Ben Fisher was next and LBW struck once more so the score was in the balance at 73-3 off 16 overs. Rob Noble was next and a formidable partnership of 124 was formed. Picko, struggling in the heat on many occasions, departed for a massive 112. Rob also brought up his half century making 66 in total and was out with the score on 245 (after a partnership of 48 with Eddie Smith). The 3s went on to finish on 284-6 following decent contributions from Eddie (26), Glyn Fowler (18*) and James Mundy (19*)

Now to defend the score and, although successful, not a great deal can be said about the display. Safe to say it was not the best bowling and fielding performance but the job was done. It included some wayward bowling and the removal from the attack of the skipper for persistent dangerous no ball bowling! This brought Ben Fisher on to bowl and he duly obliged, taking 5-34 and ripping through the middle order batsmen. There were plenty of starts for Broughton as some went on the attack in the big chase but inevitably the wickets fell. The other five wickets were spread as eight bowlers were used in total and the end came with the score on 191 in the 38th over, sealing a 93 run victory.

So.. like London buses, the 3s wait a long time for a win and two come along at once. Onto Alford & District next week win another crunch game against a team one place above us in the league.
