Loss by one sodding wicket!

Sincere apologies for the time its taken to write and publish the report, i'll pay a fine for it.

After watching it rain for an hour and with too much tea & coffee in the system, we lost the toss and was asked to bat first in a 40 over a side game on a fresh green wicket. We were in trouble early with Lindsay and Tomlinson both falling for ducks. Cook joined Morley Barnes (Who loves this ground) with the score on 15 and both counter attacked the angry and chirpy opening partnership of Bourne. The boundary was found with ease from both and a 50 partnership quickly became a 100 one. Both Cook & PMB passed half centuries before the former was bowled with the score on 122. Morley-Barnes fell in the death overs for a superb and timely 73. Too many dot balls in the last 8 overs cost us making 200 and that is definitely something that we'll look to work on. 181-6 off 40 left the game in the balance.

We have to mention the quality tea here provided by the home side... Magnificent! I do believe our opening bowlers of Onion & Peatman may have eaten too much.

Our usual standard and mantra in the first 10 overs is two wickets, however, this didn't happen and the attacking opening pair of Bourne looked to take the game to us and raced to a 50 run opening stand. Some sloppy fielding and dropped chances cost us early opportunities, it may seem a little harsh but by the standards we've set this year, we won't settle for anything less. Peatman snared by openers in quick succession to make the game wide open having both caught behind by the newly engaged Bishop. Cook & Rolfs then bowled in tandem to try and strangle the run chase. Success came when Cook bowled both the overseas and the dangerous Evison. The skipper then took the prized wicket of Morgan to a juggling/falling over Redmond which then blew the game wide open and a thriller was on the cards. The early sloppy fielding then turned into scenes of greatness with Morley-Barnes taking a diving catch on the boundary and Redmond taking a catch at cow corner that he saw, then lost, waved his arms, stood still and then caught it after seeing it again. Cook's hat trick ball came and went after taking 5 wickets and Rolfs took the 9th wicket with Bourne still needing 14 to win. A few chipped shots and a couple inside edges for singles took the game into the last over with both teams only needing one blow to claim a thriller. Sadly, it was Bourne who squeaked over the line with 2 balls left.

What could of easily been 4 victories from 4 became 3 & 1 but the positives massively outweigh the negatives. We win together, we lose together, UTL.
