1st XI Match Report

Scunthorpe won the toss and elected to bowl on a warm sunny day at the Lindum as the club looked to celebrate once more the ‘Presidents Tea Party’ hosted by the livewire that is Keith Tomlinson!
We were served up a feast both on and off of the pitch as the Lindum lads got stuck in from the outset. Excellent swing bowling from James Dewhurst and some good line and length bowling from Will Wright soon had the visitors in trouble. 6-0 soon became 13-6 as the Lindum opening bowlers bowled with great discipline and behind the wicket the ‘James’ cordon was in fine form with Jake Benson and Joe Peatman taking quite frankly outrageous catches. 13-6 became 35-9 before some inevitable resistance came forth from the Scunthorpe last pair. It is rare that you steamroller a team for a ridiculously low score and the lads were concocting some inventive plans to try and take the final wicket. Ben Brumby was the last man to go as he was trapped LBW for 35 by Will Wright with the score on 69. Will ended with 5-41 and ‘Dewy’ took 5-24 and I believe Dewy has given Sky Sports permission to use his spell as a ‘Masterclass’ available to download in HD.

After a ten minute turn around Will and Pierce Morley-Barnes strode out to take on the small chase. Will was adjudged LBW for 0 with the score on 12 and Osama Rabbani, returning to the side after an avalanche of runs for the Seconds, played a few nice shots before he nicked off for 12. Skipper Tomlinson strode to the crease with the score on 33 to join PMB looking to finish the game without giving the visitors anything to show for their trip. They took the score to 68 with Pierce playing some lovely shots before he holed out to mid-wicket. Pierce made 37 and it would have been nice if he’d have finished not out, not to deny Scunthorpe a point but he deserved to. However, it wasn’t to be and Ben Rolfs hit his first ball to the boundary for four to at least give his parents something to clap after their mammoth journey from Melbourne.

A very clinical ruthless showing from the lads. They sensed blood and they seized the opportunity and the game finished shortly after 2pm. If only we’d have known what was to occur Saturday could have been called ‘The President’s Brunch’.
