1st XI Match Report

The weather prevented the completion of a finely poised game between Lindum and Market Deeping at the LCG on Saturday. The hosts, without Will Wright who has a dose of the awfully contagious Revisionitis, batted first and it was Grant who opened up alongside Pierce. Both fell early off the opening bowler, which gave number three Aidan the opportunity to score some much needed runs. He did so nicely, scoring 33 alongside skipper Charlie, but when these fell, Charlie for 16, it left Lindum on around about 60(ish?)-4. Will Taylor steadied things splendidly yet again, repeating last week's feat by scoring an unbeaten 50. This time, however, the middle order and tail did chip in to take Lindum to a competitive total - Rolfsy made 23, including a sweetly struck six (a two and four overthrows), Bish 15, Jake 16 and Joe levered 25 to justify his promotion from 11 to 10. Oh and Tom made 0, sorry Tom. Elliott made two not out at the end with Will to leave the total on 202-9.

Joe and Elliott opened up with the new rock, each claiming a wicket early doors with catches taken by Pierce in a promising start for the hosts. Rolfsy then got his token wicket, an LBW to remove the number four for 17, before a solid fourth wicket partnership began to turn the tide in Deeping's favour. However, as rain clouds began to circle, this was broken by Benno who had the captain caught by Rolfsy for 47, who was quickly followed by the number six who was also caught off Benno by Tom. Unfortunately, with the game right in the balance on 100-5 from 27.5 overs, the rain came and outstayed its welcome, meaning the umpires called it a day as both teams were handed a share of the spoils. Initiations for the new lads and captains commenced when the rain had stopped, and I think we'll leave those for another day.
