1st XI Match Report

The 1st XI fell to their first defeat of the season on Saturday away at newly promoted Scunthorpe. The visitors, welcomed to their changing room by a brand-spanking new bin after a fellow Lindum member destroyed the previous one last season (naming no names), batted first and openers Wright and Morley-Barnes were looking for a repeat of their previous stand in the win over Grantham last time out. However, it wasn't to be this time around as P was bowled for 20 by the skiddy opening bowler after an opening partnership of 42, before number three Aidan was also cleaned up the very next ball. Skipper Charlie was in at four and steadied the ship well, adding 65 with Will before the latter was caught off ex-Lindum man Bansal for 42. Charlie and number five Will Taylor added 40 before the skipper was caught for 60, which was followed by somewhat of a middle order collapse; Rolfsy was stumped for four (perhaps some TAPE needed on the bottom of his boots?), Tom was run out for one after realising he'd used up his allocated time away from revision, Bish went LBW for 10 (being stump-height doesn't aid his cause) and Joe was caught for one off the final ball. 198-8 was the total to defend, with Will Taylor left with a lovely little 50 not out.

Scunthorpe's innings started similarly to Lindum's, with the openers putting on just shy of 50 before the first wicket fell - the number two caught behind off Joe. Their number three also fell soon after, with Wrighty claiming the LBW to leave Scunny 49-2. Again, a solid third wicket partnership rebuilt the innings, taking the hosts to 106 before Rolfsy got in on the action, with Tom taking the catch to remove the half-centurion Bansal. Rolfsy took another moments later with the score unchanged, Bish taking his second behind the stumps. However, the number four proved difficult to handle as he steadied the ship, almost single handedly adding 40 before Rolfsy removed the number six for six runs, Bish again taking the catch. Bish then claimed his fourth victim of the day, stumping the number seven off Benno, but it proved to be the final dismissal as Scunthorpe knocked off the remainder of the runs six wickets down with nine overs remaining - the batsmen finishing on 56 and 37 not out.
