1st XI Match Report

The 1st XI were on the wrong side of a close game away at everyone's favourite away day, Boston, on Saturday. Skipper Charlie lost the and the hosts decided to have a bat first. Will W and Joe opened up with the new rock, and did a grand job of taking crucial early wickets. Will removed numbers two and three for ducks, before Joe bowled the number four for two and Will removed number five for the same score. However, a fifth wicket partnership frustrated Lindum, with the number six scoring 47 before being stumped by Euan off Jonny's bowling and the opener scoring 73 before being run out by, also by Euan. Will took his fourth wicket by clean bowling the number seven for a duck but a late charge from Boston's tail saw them reach 183-7 from the 50 overs.

The opening combination and accountancy firm fob-off of Wright & Taylor began the chase. After a week away in Ireland visiting the Guinness factory and watching Monsters Inc, Wright was caught and bowled for 21. Taylor was bowled for 12 and number four Jonny was next to go for three. Grant's promotion from the 2nd team paid off as he second top scored with 34 (initiation required...?) , while skipper Charlie chipped in with 20. However, a mini-middle order collapse left Lindum facing an uphill struggle as JimKim was caught for four from 174 balls, Euan was LBW for one and Dan was clean bowled by an 11mph delivery from the bowler with an action of left-arm backwards. Thanks for coming. This brought Jake and Joe to the crease. Jake made a steady 14 not out from 30 balls, but Joe was having none of the steady stuff as got his head down and he whhhaccckkkedddd ittttt, using his 9ft levers to smash 53 from 36 balls. Unfortunately he was run out at the non striker's end, and with him went Lindum's slim chances of victory as number 11 Kempo was out LBW for 0. A fine effort but nonetheless a 14 run defeat.
