1st XI Match Report

The 1st XI received a taste of their own medicine on Saturday as they lost to Bourne off the penultimate ball of the game at the LCG. The visitors won the toss and put Lindum into bat on a pitch which has proved difficult to bat on in most games this season. Maybe JimKim has some ideas on how to improve that. The opening partnership of Wills Wright and Taylor was broken early as the former fell for a rare duck, which is also a speciality in most Michelin star restaurants. Other Will then went for a verrrryyyy patient 10 with the score on 33, before Bish and Charlie put on just shy of 50 before the skipper went for 29. Aspiring groundsman JimKim and Jonny then fell cheaply which brought converted specialist batsman Tom in at number seven. Bish was next to go for a lovely 61, before Joe and Jake went for not many, leaving Ozzy (5*) to see out the innings with Tom who finished on an unbeaten 41. Major 50 avoidance. 165-7 was the final score.

It proved to be competitive as Bourne's chase went right down to the wire. Will W and Shano opened the bowling but it was JimKim who made the breakthrough, clean bowling Bourne's opener. Turns out bowling at the stumps brings wickets! Who knew? Joe then took two quick wickets with the score in the 60s to keep Bourne in check, before Will returned to the attack and had one caught behind by Bish after a partnership of 50ish. Two more quick wickets, one each for Will and Jake, left the game in the balance and another Champagne Lindum win looked to be on the cards. The seventh wicket fell in the 47th over, courtsey of JimKim, with the score on 145, leaving Bourne needing 21 with three wickets left. However, it came down to them requiring just five from the last over, which they reached with one ball to spare for the loss of no further wickets.
