The Academy maintained their 100% win record with a tense win over Bassingham on another sweltering day the LCG. Skipper Kempo inevitably lost the toss and shock horror, Lindum found themselves bowling first again. The visitors posted a competitive 172-6 from their 40 overs, including a VERY patient 54 not out from the opener. Kempo took two wickets, spin twins Nabil and Martin took one each and there was also a wicket for Harry Lewis who bowled very well for a wicketkeeper! Special mention also to Sam Nuttall who bowled tightly in the opening and closing stages, and also to Arthur Boot and Alex Grogan who fielded exceptionally in the heat. Also to the other youngster in the side, Daz Lilley, who bowled four lovely overs of textbook top spinners. Not just a good scorer.
The chase got off to a solid start as Dr Nabil and Harry Lewis opened up steadily, before the latter was run out for four. Martin, Sam and Arthur fell shortly after to leave Lindum on 55-4, before the Doctor went for a classy 40. Alex joined Adam at the crease and smashed a four through square leg before he was bowled, bringing Ollie out to join Adam with the score on 76-6 from 27 overs. These two put on 19 before Adam was caught behind. Elliott came in as a specialist number nine and he and Ollie put on 41 quickly before the latter was bowled. Specialist finisher Kempo came in at 10 and just as it looked like the two would bring it home, Elliott was caught off a rank half tracker at short third man for a walloped 39. Daz went in at 11 and scampered through for the quickest of singles in the penultimate over to put Kempo on strike, who duly smacked two fours to bring home the buttery biscuit base with an over to spare. 20 points in the bag!
