Sunday 1st XI Match Report

Ancaster's ground just about survived Saturday afternoon's deluge to allow Lindum to record a comfortable win on Sunday. Skipper Will Taylor, standing in for Elliott who's no doubt having a quiet, peaceful getaway in Amsterdam, lost the toss and Lindum were unsurprisingly put into bat on a pure sticky dog of a wicket. Overseas duo Price and Rolfs, who have probably never heard of a sticky dog never mind played on one, opened up and, after nearly having his head taken off first ball, Pricey fell in the first over after slapping a back-foot drive straight at extra cover. Ollie was in at three and he and Ben hung around for a short while, attempting to see of the worst of the conditions and the best of the bowlers while picking up a single here and there. Ben (12) then snicked one down the leg side and Ollie (13) cut a rising delivery straight to backward point to leave Lindum in a spot of bother on 32-3. This brought foreigner number three, Darryl, and Taylor number one, Will, to the crease, and these two batted very nicely to guide Lindum out of danger. Meanwhile, the ridiculously daft new no-ball rule once again took centre stage as two Ancaster bowlers were removed from the attack after a couple of slow, loopy full tosses each were sent to the boundary... just leave them on ump... Anyway Darryl's age and stiffness soon got the better of him, forcing him to 'retire can't be bothered' on an admirable 41, as he was replaced by Euan. Will then fell with the score on 144 as he was bounced out on 34, retracting away from a bouncer(?) and toppling onto his own stumps. He was replaced by brother Dan and he absolutely creamed seven from his 14 balls before he was bowled, leaving Euan to take Lindum out of sight at the end of the innings. He eventually fell for 35, unselfishly running himself out in the final over. Lindum finished on a pleasing 166-6, with Max (2) and Sunday debutant Louie Sadler (1) the men with the tidy little red inkers to their name.

Ancaster's chase got off to a fine start as far as Lindum were concerned; Pricey steamed in and got two wickets early on, both caught behind by Euan. The real pace man, Dan Taylor, then got in on the action, Euan again taking an exquisite one-handed diving catch to reduce the hosts to 19-3. This became 19-4 when Pricey got his third in textbook style - his leg stump full toss was tamely clipped straight to Louie at square-leg who took the catch like he'd been playing all his life. The next batsman was forced to retire hurt (actually hurt, not like Darryl), as Harry Vincent Wells was just too quick for him, his delivery slamming into the batsman's arm before he could blink. Another exquisite piece of action accounted for the fifth wicket; a quick single was attempted to Will Taylor at cover who picked the ball up real clean and, with one stump to aim at, made no mistake in throwing them down to send the batsman packing. 38-5. Vincent (Kompany, Vaughn, Van Gogh, Cable, take your pick) then clean bowled the number five. Zac then got in on the action to claim wicket number seven, with Rolfsy travelling in from long-on on Crazy Frog's bike to take a very good catch. ME ME ME ME ME ME. Zac claimed his second after some sharp work behind the stumps from Euan, before Rolfs wrapped things up by clean bowling the last man, but not before he'd launched him for six, to leave Ancaster 72 all out. A fine day and a fine win.
