Sunday 1st XI Match Report

Lindum scraped past Fulbeck on Sunday to win their first game of the 2018 season. Fulbeck won the toss and chose to bowl, and it soon became apparent why... a slow, low deck proved very difficult to score on, as Lindum were boweld out for just 96 off the penultimate ball of the 40 over innings. The Kiwi pair of DP and DP opened up and it was Pricey who was first to go, clean bowled for five by one that did keep rather low, which Pricey seemed to have never witnessed before... Darryl followed his Black Capped friend back to the pavilion soon afterwards, calling Ollie through for a quick one, only to pull up halfway down the wicket after feeling something in his calf and see mid-off throw the stumps down while he hobbled towards the crease. These Kiwis aren't half soft. 9-2. Ollie and Rolfsy dug in for a while, being careful not to go too crazy and score more than two off an over, but the partnership broke with the score on 30 after Ollie played all around a straight, low one for 11. Rolfs soon followed, spooning a cut to point for 12, before a mammoth fifth wicket partnership of 27 between Picko and Elliott guided Lindum to 64, only for Elliott to be caught well at mid-off for 17. Picko top scored with 18 before he chopped on attempting an elaborate cover drive, and Jacob was bowled for 0 soon after. Birthday boy Zac was the eighth man to fall after Wellsy spooned the easiest of caught and bowled chances back to the bowler, only for him to drop it. Meanwhile, Zac had used his 20/20 future-telling spectacles to see that the bowler would drop it, ran down the other end for the easy single, only to see Wellsy turning around and beginning to walk off. Zac then turned around and ran back to try and make his ground, but was unfortunately ran out for 0. The dirtiest of glares were directed Wellsy's way from young Zac, and the bat was punched at least thrice during the long walk off. Revenge will be had, I sense. Wellsy got his comeuppance when he was caught for 13, before a vital last wicket stand of 14 between Jordan and Dewy came to and end when the former was bowled for four. Dewy finished 10 not out, and Lindum on 96 all out.

Fulbeck's chase couldn't have started better as far as Lindum were concerned, as they collapsed to 4-4 early on. Dewy clean bowled a couple, Ollie ran out the opener going back for a bizarre and suicidal second, and Zac snaffled one at cover again off Dewy. A 20-run partnership rescued Fulbeck somewhat, but Rolfsy brought that to an end with an LBW. He claimed his second shortly after thanks to some very sharp work behind the wickets from Pricey to stump the number six and leave the hosts struggling on 31-6. However, after a seventh wicket partnership of 41, things began to get tense as Fulbeck started to dream of an unlikely win. Fortunately, skipper Elliott came into the attack and led from the front admirably, claiming two quick LBWs, Fulbeck now 81-8. This became 88-9 when Jordan came on and clean bowled the number 10 - nine runs or a wicket to win. Thankfully Fulbeck could only manage two of the nine required before the former Lindum man Tommy Wright was clean boweld by Elliott for a well-made and almost match winning 22, meaning they were bowled out for 90 and Lindum had secured the six-run victory.
