Sunday 1st XI Match Report

The Sunday 1st XI suffered a close defeat on Sunday over title rivals Boston. Lindum won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious day at the LCG, yet only managed 125 on a slow deck. Will T and Aidan opened up and it was Will who was first to go, caught behind early on for three. Ollie (13) joined Aidan (24) and the two stuck around for a bit before both falling in quick succession, both caught behind in successive overs. Tom and James were numbers four and five, and that's about as many times the two changed their mind about whether or not to run in the scenario which comically saw Tom run out for three. James soon joined him on the sidelines as he was bowled for two, leaving it to skip and vice skip, Dan and Euan, to rebuild the innings. Euan batted nicely before he was removed for 19, meaning Dan was joined at the crease by Wellsy who was nearly in need of an air ambulance after running a three after a heavy night courtesy of the trusty sesh kitty. Dan saw Wellsy's arrival at the crease as a licence to tee off as he pulled all manner of shots out of his armoury, including a reverse sweep, a swipe over the scorebox and duck/glove punch to square leg. He brought up his 50 in the final over as Lindum posted 125-6.

Boston's chase went right down to the wire as they knocked the runs off in the penultimate over for the loss of seven wickets. Lindum started well as Dewy claimed three early wickets; one bowled and two catches taken by JimKim and Lils. JimKim then made a breakthrough of his own on the mark of drinks as one of his trusty off-breaks was sliced into the air, with Dan taking the loopy catch at cover, breaking his skull and coccyx in the process as he hit the ground with a thud. Boston's number five batted well to keep Boston's hopes alive, yet Lindum continued to take wickets to keep their own chances in tact. JimKim claimed another as he bowled their number six, before Ted got in on the act with two wickets for himself. The game was anyone's with three overs to go as Boston required 20 while Lindum needed three wickets. Unfortunately, Boston took 12 off the 38th over, leaving them needing just eight from 12 balls. A difficult chance was spurned at mid-off, allowing them to run two, before Boston's number nine hoiked one over the scorebox to bring the scores level. A quick single was run as Boston knocked off the total with an over and a bit to spare, meaning a win in their final game will see them seal the title.
