Sunday 1st XI Match Report

The Sunday 1st XI enjoyed a thoroughly enjoyable day out and win at Revesby on Sunday. On a day jam-packed with ridiculous one-liners, incredibly thick comments and absolutely zero phone signal, it was a timely reminder that Sunday cricket can be a lot of fun after all. Lindum batted first on a tricky wicket, with Aidan opening alongside skipper Dan. Captain's prerogative and all that. The former fell early for three, caught behind again, before Ollie was bowled for seven. Euan was then run out for one - a decision he disagreed with - but was unanimously given out by both umpires, their players, our players, both scorers and the straw bales surrounding the field. Lils then followed for one and Dan for 20, leaving Lindum in all manner of difficulty on 34-5. JimKim then sent a huge leading edge straight to mid-off to deepen the woes. Crying out for a partnership, the unlikeliest of heroes stepped forward in the shape of half-dead Harry Wells and 'I used to be a batsman' Shane Barr in particular. The two steadied the ship before Wells went for 13, Elliott holed out for 11 and Ted shouldered arms to one that pitched on middle and took off. What planet is he on?? Well, Greece, apparently. Dewy then batted nicely with Shane to make 11* before Shane's tremendous innings of 35 came to an end courteous of an LBW. Faf doesn't know what he's missing. Lindum finished on a well-recovered 144.

After a fine tea revolving around Penguin jokes and Ted's extreme rarity, Lindum took to the field. A still half-drunk Dewy made the early breakthrough, with Euan claiming the 'stumping' as it ricocheted off his pads and into the stumps with the batsman out of his ground. He then cleaned bowled one and had two catches taken off him by Dan and Euan to finish with four, ending the weekend with figures of 9-49 from 20 overs. Jimkim bowled well from the other end despite not taking any wickets, mainly due to the umpire hating his guts. Live with it Jim. Wells then did his best to break his own ankle in a classic Glenn McGrath situation before taking a couple of wickets, both clean bowled. Ted then came into the attack and, while seeming intent on solely fielding the ball with his ankles, took a couple of wickets - a clean bowled and a good back-tracking catch by Aidan at mid-on. With two wickets needed, Elliott came on to bowl after a severe near-death experience in the field, and duly wrapped up the win with two fairly straight forward catches being taken by the brains trust of JimKim and Ted. 20 points on the board, with a potential title decideder against Boston up next.
