3rd XI Match Report

Lindum lost the toss and were asked to bat first.
Dan Hobson and Nabil opened and we were off to a quick start thanks mostly to Dan. The score was 30 after five overs before Nabil reached for a wide one and was caught in the gully. Martin was next in and was bowled first up by one that kept very low. Unfortunately, Dan nicked one behind soon after and Hugo was unlucky with some bounce from a spinner, with the ball coming of his thigh pad and leg before rolling back onto the stumps. We were now struggling at 47-4 off 10. A rebuilding partnership was required and despite both offering a chance early, Max and Matt Gleadell delivered. Max was next to fall for 31 with the score on 82 in the 22nd over. James Mundy joined Matt and another strong partnership was formed before they both fell in quick succession to leave the score 128-7 from 35 overs. Beggers and Kafait were at the crease to find some low order runs from the deep batting lineup in the final 10 overs. Beggers saw it through to the final over for an exciting 32 but Kafait and Zac both fell whilst providing great support to compile a very decent total of 178.

Kafait and Beggers resumed their partnership but this time with the ball and had more success, bowling some tight and threatening lines. Kafait claimed three early wickets but Beggers helped with applying pressure from the other end. The score was 41-3 off 19 when the spells were complete. Dan Hobson, relieved from wicket keeping duties with James in the side, came on to bowl next and had two chances put down in his first over before getting on a hat-trick in his second over. A good delivery was met with the suitable defence to deny him. Matt Gleadell was bowling from the other end and equally created chances before having one caught at mid-on by Beggers. Hugo claimed a direct hit for a run-out to leave the score now 71-7 from 28 overs. More bowling changes followed with the skipper and Hugo having a brief three over stint each from one end whilst Zac continued his wicket taking form from the other with two more victims. The final wicket proved tough to take, lasting six overs, so Martin was the eighth bowler into the attack and claimed the final wicket with his fifth delivery in the 42nd over of the innings. Holton Le Clay all out for 142.

A great win for the 3s and another full 20 points. At one stage looked inevitable but another stage as if it was not going to be as the final wicket took some time coming. The win was claimed but achieving full points was vital in a very tight division. Next week we're back at home against Normanby Park.
