A youthful but talented group took to the trip to Alkborough - We lost the toss and were asked to bat.
It was a steady start as the bowling and overnight rain meant watchful batting was required. Wickets fell at regular intervals but a decent platform was set at 100-5 off 34 overs. Unfortunately it was not to be, and the final score was 121 all out in the 42nd over. The highlights were a brisk 22 from Max Bauer (including two massive 6s) and Jon Begley scoring yet another valuable half century with 62. Extras were the only other scorer into double figures.
Conditions did improve slightly throughout the day but equally the bowling was not quite consistently accurate enough to defend the low total, which Alkborough capitalised on with an opening partnership of 73. A great spell from Anton McCready (3-22 from 8.4 overs) provided some resistance but a six wicket victory for Alkborough was sealed in the 31st over.
A great effort all round but it was not to be on the day. Next week is a visit to promotion chasing Normanby Park.
