2nd XI Match Report

A strong 2nd XI side fell to a disappointing defeat at home to Scothern on Saturday. Kiwi Dan Price finally made his debut after last weekend's washout, and he certainly made his mark, hitting 90 out of a well below-par total of 144. In an innings which saw Lindum fall from 102-1 to 144 all out from 41.3 overs, only George (17) joined Pricey in making double figures.

The game started well as Lindum were put into bat on a seemingly good deck on a glorious day at the LCG, and when Pricey and George knocked up a quick 50 partnership, a big score looked on the cards. George was caught at slip for 17 with the score on 58, but even then things continued to go well. Pricey was whacking it to all corners of the ground, supported by a careful Ozzy who went in at three. However, when Oz was caught for seven, Ollie for five, Euan and Angus went LBW for 0 and four, Max caught for nine, Wells for 0, Dewy for seven and Zac the last man to be bowled for two, Lindum were all suddenly all out for just 144. Pricey fell at some point, caught and bowled for 90, so it's all his fault for not tonning up really...

The frustration of the batting performance was repeated in the field, as Scothern won the game having been on the ropes early on. The innings started perfectly from Lindum's perspective, as Dewy took a wicket in the very first over - a thin edge was snaffled by Euan behind the stumps. Some tight bowling from Dewy and Ted contained Scothern, and the pressure finally paid off as Ted took his first wicket since returning from Malawi, where he was taught English and Maths by the local children. Angus took the sharp catch at gully to remove the other opener for nine. 23-2. Dewy then made it 23-3 with the fizzing catch being eaten by Max at cover, and it was soon 23-4 as Dewy had the number four plumb LBW second ball. Lindum were well in the game, but a frustrating fifth wicket partnership guided them to 61 before Angus finally struck, the number four edging one behind having played and missed at the previous 57. However, that was to be the last of the action in the 'wickets' column, as numbers six and seven guided Scothern to their target inside 43 overs, finishing on 61 and 34 respectively.
