The 2nd XI completed their great escape on Saturday after heavy rain meant their game at Bracebridge Heath was abandoned. One point ahead of second bottom Alkborough before play, Lindum just had to match or better Alkborough's points on the day to stay in the division, providing only two teams are relegated. Lindum bowled first in order to secure early bowling points with rain in the area, and it was a near repeat of the home fixture, with BBH's opening partnership starting strongly after dropped catches let them off the hook. Skipper Benno eventually made the breakthrough, with the catch being taken by hop-along Grant at slip. Wellsy then claimed wicket number two, clean bowling the number three who was too irritated by Lils' conversation skills to continue batting. Max then earned bowling point number one with wicket number three, a run out of Red 1 Carl Walton who had missed the big display at Scampton Airshow to make 15 runs. Wellsy then got the other opener LBW, who's made 150 more runs against us this season than he would've if we could catch a ball, while wicket number five, and bowling point number two, came via another Grant catch at slip off 'that hop thing', aka Wellsy's bowling. Meanwhile, Dan had steamed in for 16 overs to absolutely no avail, with plays and misses and LBW shouts coming and going like they were going out of fashion. Unlucky Dan.
That was the last of the action as heavy rain prevented another ball being bowled with the score on 194-5 from 41 overs. That meant, with two bowling points in the bag and five points for the abandonment, that seven points were enough to keep Lindum in the Premier League after Alkborough had been comprehensively beaten by 10 wickets. After being 84 points from survival and without a win at the halfway stage of the season, it wasn't a bad way to end the season. West Brom side 2004/05, eat your hearts out.
