2nd XI Match Report

Rain again was the winner as the 2nd XI's fixture at Messingham was abandoned. The hosts won the toss and bowled on a soft, damp wicket which inevitably proved difficult to bat on. Nevertheless, Lindum bucked the trend of the season by successfully batting out the overs, making 105-9 from the reduced 44 overs. Tom Lea fell early after he was given LBW for 0 after playing all around one. Dave Spokes and Ollie put on 30ish before the latter fell for 12, driving one straight into the unknowing hands of the short cover fielder. Adam and Matt Picko fell for ducks in quick succession to leave Lindum struggling, before the returning Max was bowled for a single run, going back to a full ball on a dodgy wicket... Top scorer Dave then fell for 32 after skying one to mid-off when attempting push the score on, which brought Dan to the crease to join Elliott. Both whacked sixes off the spinner in their partnership of again 30ish, as the Bargain Bucket Six-Hitting Challenge began to heat up. Elliott went for 13 and Dan for 18 before Benno was given LBW, despite the ball hitting him outside the line of the square, never mind the stumps. This meant it was down to the trusty partnership of Joe and Dewy to see out the rest of the innings... which they actually managed brilliantly, making 19 not out and eight not out in their stand of again 30ish. 105 was the score to beat.

Joe and Dan opened up and batting again proved difficult, this time for the hosts. Both bowlers went past the outside edge, with Joe bruising up the batsmen while Dan forced two ridiculously close LBW shouts. He also bowled the worst maiden on record, comprised totally of leg side deliveries with one just missing Picko at leg slip and going for four 'byes'. However, he did rediscover his areas and force the edge, only for Lils to put the chance down diving to his left. Next one Ad. With the score on 18-0 from 12 overs, the heavens opened and showed no signs of closing. Match abandoned, and Lindum left with an ultimately disappointing five points.
