2nd XI Match Report

The 2nd XI recorded a second consecutive victory in a very high scoring affair at home to relegation rivals Alkborough. The visitors won the toss and inevitably put Lindum into bat on a greenish deck below cloudy skies on a muggy day. Batsman's paradise. The conditions, along with some questionable batting, reflected the scorecard as Lindum were bowled out for 73. Ollie, Aidan, Adam and Picko senior fell VERY early to leave Lindum shell-shocked on 11-4, before Tom, Wellsy and the horrifyingly hungover Grant also went with the score on something like 24-7. Elliott went soon after as Lindum begged for a total of around 75 so we at least had something to defend. A very small something, but something nonetheless. Dan Taylor thankfully returned to a bit of form, scoring 22 alongside captain Benno who scored a valuable 11. However, Dan fell after holing out to mid-off, before remarkably walking silently from the pitch and into the changing room without a swear word or bin kick in sight. A changed man. Dewy scored five after taking an eternity to get off the mark, but he was last man out after being bowled to leave Lindum with 73 to play with. You never know a good score until both teams have batted.

A very fired up Lindum took to the field, eager to not let last weekend's win at Scothern be a one-off. Elliott made the breakthrough, clean bowling the shot-a-ball opener before Dan did the same to the other opener. Some top-class chirping from Lils behind the stumps earned wicket number three as a very frustrated batsman drilled one straight into the plywood-stained hands of Wellsy at cover, before Benno came into the attack and took two quick wickets; one clean bowled and one caught behind smartly by Lils. The game hung in the balance with the score on 37-5 - half the runs scored with half the wickets lost. TENSE. Dan tipped the scales in our favour by removing Alkborough's number six, who seemed to be their best batsman, plum in front of all three. Out came number seven, who whacked his first ball over cow to make his intentions clear. However, cue Dewy, who came into the attack and removed the dangerous hitter thanks to a superb stumping from Lils. The win was within touching distance when Dewy's very next ball found the the thick edge of the bat, with Matt Picko taking the sharp catch at slip. Wicket number nine fell when Elliott's delivery was sliced to point by the young batsman, with Ollie snaffling the catch despite bricking it a bit as it span towards him. One wicket needed, 10 runs to win. Fortunately, the former happened first as Elliott's bouncer was slapped into the air off the top edge of the bat. Adam raced after it and, despite nearly colliding with Dan at fine leg, he snaffled the catch safely in his gloves to spark wild scenes of celebration over a thrilling 10 run victory. Never in doubt.
