The 2nd XI FINALLY got their first win of the season on Saturday in a grudge match away at Scothern. Skipper Benno won a toss for the first time in weeks and elected to bat on a hard but green deck. Ollie continued his sensational form as he fell early, caught behind for 0. This brought the returning GailPick to the crease, who shared a brief partnership with Ozzy before the latter was bowled for 21. Euan went on to make a lovely 37 before he was bowled by one that did rather turn. Grant finally found a bit of form after surviving a troubling first ball - must've been the anticipation of wine. He also scored 37 which included a lovely shot straight into the umpire's groin region before he was caught by a one handed snorter at slip. Gus then overtook Euan as the day's best Pickering by scoring an excellent 50, only the second half-century by anyone for the 2nds this season. Tom, Wellsy and Shane all made useful contributions of around 10 as Lindum secured maximum batting points for only the second time this season. 202-9 from 50 overs.

The defence got off to a perfect start as Tom Lea removed Scothern's star opener with a superb run out early on, picking up the ball left handed and firing a throw into Gail behind the stumps on the half-volley who gathered it in like a Gin & Tonic from the Rovers Return Inn. The second wicket was a long time coming, with Angus making the breakthrough after drinks with the simple catch being taken behind the stumps by Euan. This kick-started a fabulous spell of bowling as Gus took 5-5 in three overs to leave the hosts reeling. Victory was almost assured as Tom removed Scothern's only other capable batsman with another run-out, before Angus took two more and Shane claimed the final wicket to spark scenes of IMMENSE relief. Angus finished with 7-17 off eight overs to throw his name into the hat for performance of the season. The hat currently has one entry. Played Gus.
