2nd XI Match Report

The 2nd XI slipped to another defeat on Saturday as they were beaten away at Holton-le-Clay, twinned with Bardney. Skipper Benno had one job, to win the toss. It was lost, we were bowling. It was a warm one, yet the inconsistent pitch made for interesting batting. The first wicket was a while coming, but a snick off Benno's bowling found its way into Dan's buckets at first slip. Dan snaffled another, this time in his chest, off the bowling of Pablo Esco-Barr, who went on to take another three wickets to finish with figures of 14-3-52-4. David Spokes also claimed a smart run out as the visitors finished on 199-6 from the 50 long, hot overs.

Déjá vu struck during the chase, as the top order fell for not many as Lindum were restricted to 29-4 early on. The returning Angus, who in his time away has been an extra in films, modeled in catalogues and performed on Broadway (maybe slightly exaggerated), and Dan steadied the ship, scoring 34 each before both fell, leaving the lower order and tail with it all to do. Elliott Dalton and Harry Wells in particular gave it a good go, scoring 15 and 45 not out respectively. Harry's knock included two lovely straight sixes into the field of wheat behind the bowler's arm, the ball narrowly missing Theresa May on one of her meddlesome runs. Benno, Dewy and Shane fell at the end as Lindum fell 19 runs short, with a big game against rivals Bracebridge Heath 2nds up next at the LCG.
