The 2nd XI produced a much improved performance at Market Rasen, taking eight bonus points in a close defeat. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat on a good pitch, and Lindum struck early when a Dewy wobbler was snicked to Dan at second slip who grasped it in between his wrist and his body. Snaffled. Rasen then had a solid second wicket partnership, which was eventually broken by Ted just after drinks, the opener departing for 62. Lindum then managed to take six more wickets courtesy of Benno (4) and Dewy (2), while ex Lindum player Ruthers lingered at the crease before he was out late on for a classy 93. Rasen closed on a few-too-many 234-8 from the 50.
Lindum's chase started well as Ollie and debutant Dave Spokes built an early partnership to ensure the recent collapses wouldn't be repeated. This was the case until Dave was run out for 17 in a situation which the less said about the better. Adam and Scunny Bunny Rob Noble added useful contributions of 18 and 21 respectively as Lindum kept pace with Rasen's run rate to make for an interesting chase. Ollie was then caught at long-on for 63 and Dan followed soon after for 19. Tom Lea in particular then made for a very tense final few overs as he got his head down and absolutely whaccckkkeeddd it, sending sixes into the car park and the river with great intensity. However, after he was caught at short fine-leg for 47 off 30 and Harry was bowled for 13, the tail fell away as Lindum were bowled out for a commendable 210 - more than the last three games combined... A good effort and we go again next week in search of our first win!
P.S. Water is wet, grass is green and Fish was out LBW (first ball). UTL
