Sunday 1st XI Match Report

The Sunday 1st XI recorded another win on Sunday, this time away at Sleaford. Before the game, a minute's silence was observed in memory of the late Steve Massingham, who was a well respected umpire and figure of Lincolnshire cricket and a friend to all at Lindum CC. RIP.

Lindum thankfully won the toss and batted first on a good batting pitch. Ollie and Aidan opened up and made the most of the conditions, bringing up the 100 at drinks to build a solid platform for the rest of the innings. Both made their debut Sunday Premier League 50s in a partnership of 188, and it should've been Ollie's first EVER century but, on 99, decided he'd pass up the opportunity and inside-edged a juicy, sweet, hit-me-wherever-you-like half-volley straight onto his leg stump to be dismissed one short of a ton. This brought GailPick to the crease before Aidan was run out for a well crafted 89. Harry Wells was in at four, and with severe, 39-and-a-half-over pad rash, was very nearly run out without facing a ball, which would've been absolutely fantastic. Euan was run out off the final ball for a useful 20ish, leaving Lindum with a competitive total of 232-3.

In another tense game, Sleaford took Lindum close as they were bowled out for 221 in the final over. A lack of scorecard availability means the details are a bit patchy, but there were some highlights: 1) Harry Wells, rocking his brand new bobby dazzler cricket spikes, taking a sublime caught and bowled as he plucked the ball one handed from the air like a pot of noodles from the discount aisle in Lidl. 2) The return of the GailPick shrill stumping appeal which was, obviously, given not out. 3) The tension between Skipper Dan and bowler Kempo as the debate whether or not to have four cow corner fielders heated up. 4) Will's catch at deep square-leg, despite having half a hand, to remove one of Sleaford's danger men off Dan's bowling. 5) The actual serious highlight which won us the game, the run out by Tom/Euan, removing Sleaford's dangerous big hitter in the penultimate over to take the game out of their reach. 20 points in the bag - again!
