Victory by 7 runs.

With Grimsby pulling out, it was left for ourselves and Scunthorpe Town to compete for a spot in the Winkworth Cup finals day. An early start and James Dewhurst sleeping in his car to make sure he didn't miss the meet time, we were asked to bat on a damp sticky one after losing the toss yet again. After quickly slipping to 6-2, Lindsay & Rolfs rebuilt the innings with some 360 degree batting. After dovetailing like the Police duo they should be, Rolfs was bowled which then brought the mercurial Aaron Onyon to the crease. Lindsay finally fell for a vital 40 and with the score on 88, the classic club cricket house of cards decided to fall in a very big way. Being bowling out for 102 inside 20 overs meant we needed to pull a rabbit from the hat.

Cook & Onyon, new ball in hand together for the first time since 1999, started the innings and it was Onyon who struck first with a still drunk Dewhurst taking a diving/falling/being pushed over/tripping over/world class catch. Rolfs got into his work early, ripping through the Scunthorpe line up during a devastating spell of leg spin bowling (4-0-8-3). With the run rate and pressure increasing, the silence from the home crowd was deafening. Lindsay continued his day out taking 2 wickets and then bowled the all important last over to get us over the line in a thriller.

Winkworth finals day, here we come! UTL.
